Join cellist Geoffrey Gartner in a solo recital that juxtaposes a masterpiece of the baroque with the multi-sensory music of the present. This event features the world premiere of an interactive installation for cello and electronics by New Orleans composer Rick Snow entitled In the Shade. During this performance, the sonorous timbres of the cello are blended with three, spatially-disposed resonant sound sculptures, filling the unique space of the Marigny Opera House. Audience members are invited to walk around the hall, immersing themselves in shifting, reverberant soundscapes. With evocative lighting to match, this will truly be a feast for the senses! Snow’s work will be complemented by a performance of Bach’s Suite IV in E flat for unaccompanied cello, placing the past and present in stark relief.
